One of the main pillars of the SERC project is community engagement and participation. It is all about working together along with nature and with people, as signified by the term اوﻨوتعا. Consequently, many of the activities undertaking during the project are about awareness creation and learning about trees – their role in the ecosystem, as carbon balancers, as drivers for fertile and healthy soil, as providers of services and value, for nature and for society.
In the SERC project, trees are planted using a particular water saving technology called Groasis. This approach includes usage of the Waterboxx, a technology particularly effective in arid areas. Water usage is reduced by 90% compared with traditional tree-planting, using irrigation. A sapling put in the ground using the Waterboxx tends to grow at slower rate in the beginning, but as it develops, it roots itself naturally. It manages to trace humidity more effectively which caters for a sustainable growth-path and greater longevity.
