CONNECTING TO UN SDGs

The increasingly serious outlook of global climate change and other environmental and social challenges of our time have given rise to massive efforts to come up with counter measures. These are particularly manifested in the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDG:s) of the United Nations, or 203:0 agenda. The SDGs is a set of 17 objectives worked out by the United Nations in consultation with a widespread range of countries, experts, NGOs, community representatives, private companies, universities, and so forth.

In various ways, the present event will relate to, and draw upon, many of the seventeen SDGs (see Box 1).  It further takes inspiration from, e.g., the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 and the recent IPCC report with its emphasis on the importance of land-use development for addressing climate change.

The SDG:s explicitly prepared for being addressed in relation to the SERC agenda, encompassing plantation, water savings, land use development etc., include at least the following ones:  nr. 3, Good Health and Well-being, nr. 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, nr. 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, nr. 10 Reduced Inequalities, nr. 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, nr. 15 Life on Land, and nr. 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
